Psychosis
Psychosis is a severe young adult and teen mental health disorder where your child loses contact with reality. They may see or hear things that others cannot, believe untrue things to be true, and have confused thinking or speaking.
Symptoms your teen or young adult may have psychosis include:
Hallucinations: Your teen or young adult may see, hear, feel, smell, or taste things that don’t exist outside of their mind. While these aren’t reality, they feel very real to them. One common hallucination is hearing voices.
Delusions: If your teen or young adults strongly believe things that are untrue, they may be experiencing delusions. A common delusion is that someone or a group of individuals is conspiring against them.
Disordered thinking and speaking: Psychosis can cause your teen or young adult’s thoughts and ideas to come on very quickly, resulting in fast-paced and confusing speech patterns.
